UKIP Why are you doing this ?

I am concerned that the leader of UKIP, a party which I am tempted to support is urging people to vote Yes  in the upcoming AV referendum. I can understand that UKIP may feel it can  do better under an alternative voting system but surely in the most simple terms, if the Yes vote prevails then it will be difficult and in fact probably impossible for UKIP to ever become the governing party on its own.
Now, to think that UKIP could ever form the Government  might be regarded as pie in the sky thinking but surely every party is formed in the belief that one day it will succeed. If that belief is watered down as time goes by then basically it is saying that it is content to reach the semi finals but never to win the final. I would suggest that this is a position which does not appeal to prospective voters.
UKIP should be saying NO to AV and promoting the NO to EU idea more forcibly. To participate in the Yes campaign is a negative move which shows little self belief in the future of the party. It gives the appearance that UKIP is content to have a share of power and to participate in a coalition, a never-ending coalition.
Stop it now Nigel and change direction on AV. Stand up for your policies and promote the idea of withdrawal from the EU with more vigor.

  1. They see it as a step to Proportional Representation which is an altogether better system all round.

  2. Bit late on this, however......

UKIP were wrong in my view too in supporting the Yes2AV side. UKIP also need to get their act together or they will be sidelined. Their presentation of policy and website leaves much to be desired too.
